Trickery pays off for Jaguars against Texans
Orlando Sentinel | September 29, 2008
Trickery pays off for Jaguars: The Jaguars had emphasized starting strong going into their third AFC South game, this one against the Houston Texans. So when facing a fourth-and-4 at the Texans' 41-yard line during the first quarter of Sunday's game, they went with a little trickery. The Jags snapped the ball directly to FB Montell Owens, who took off down the right sideline for a touchdown. "It was a well-executed play and Montell wanted to finish it," Jags Coach Jack Del Rio said. It was Owens' first career carry and first career touchdown. "I'm predominantly a special-teams guy," said Owens, who signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2006. "But with the Jaguars, big plays can happen on special teams."

Jaguars enjoyed big day on the ground
Orlando Sentinel | September 22, 2008
Runaway Jaguars: Who says the Jaguars can't run? The pregame statistics, for one. Jacksonville was ranked 27th in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging 65 yards a game. Fred Taylor got that on a couple of runs Sunday. He finished with 121 yards while Maurice Jones-Drew had 107. It was the second time in franchise history two backs rushed for more than 100 yards in a game. The first came Dec. 10, 2006, when Taylor and Jones-Drew helped the Jaguars roll up 375 yards rushing. The victim was Indianapolis, which amazingly enough recovered and won the Super Bowl two months later.

Jaguars post 98 yards rushing
Orlando Sentinel | September 15, 2008
Running game improves: Jacksonville's running game produced a paltry 33 yards last week as the Jaguars figured out how to make do with a rapidly falling-apart offensive line. This week wasn't much kinder to the running backs, but with the help of 32 yards from QB David Garrard, the Jags picked up 98 yards rushing. RB Fred Taylor picked up 49 yards, averaging 3.5 yards per carry, and Maurice Jones-Drew added 17 yards on seven carries. One of those was a 2-yard TD. Several times Taylor looked stopped in the backfield but squirmed his way out of tackles for yardage. "I got a little juice," Taylor said. "That's my job. My job is to create positive yardage, regardless of how the play's blocked. I've been doing it my whole career."

1. Motivated Marcus. Bills DT Marcus Stroud makes his homecoming to a city where his NFL career began. Word is his departure was less than amicable, so he'll be eager to make the Jaguars pay for trading him. Stroud could have a field day against the Jags' interior offensive line, which is starting injury replacements at center and both guard spots. RG Tutan Reyes will need a lot of help from C Dennis Norman to keep Stroud and the rest of the Bills' front seven out of the backfield. However, containing Stroud is just part of the Jags' concerns.
